Perth Was Promising and Winton Was Cursed

After showing promising signs in Perth, Mark Winterbottom and Cameron Waters were cursed in Winton with broken axles and tyre degradation.

Cameron Waters kicked off his Perth SuperSprint campaign with a promising second in qualifying, before dropping back to sixth during Race 11.

Race 12 saw the 2017 Sandown 500 Champion drop back to last at one point, before scrambling to 13th place.

Heading to Tickford Racing’s home track in Winton, Waters couldn’t catch a break.

It was a case of lightning striking twice for the Car 6 crew, as Waters suffered broken axles in both Race 13 and Race 14. He finished in 26th place to end a brutal weekend.

Mark Winterbottom started at Barbagallo Raceway in stunning fashion. Mark finished sixth in qualifying and backed this up with an impressive second in Saturday’s Race 11.

This was Frosty’s first podium finish of 2018 and the 117th podium finish of his career.

Race 12 saw Frosty battle a steering issue after first lap contact with Richie Stanaway. This resulted in the veteran finishing 21st for the final race in Perth.

Frosty arrived in Winton on the eve of his 37th birthday. Unfortunately he had little to celebrate with a 10th in Race 13 and 20th finish in Race 14.

The team will be hoping to bounce back in the top end for Round 7 of the Supercars Championship at Hidden Valley Raceway. The Darwin Triple Crown takes place on June 15-17, featuring Races 15 and 16 of 2018.
